Emory University Warrantless Search of Vehicles Paper

An officer noticed a car with its tail light out and stopped it. He asked the driver for license and registration and noticed that there was a passenger in the car. The driver informed the officer that he was driving his friend home and the car belonged to his friend. The officer asked both of them to come out of the car and look at the tail light. When they stepped out, the officer noticed that the man who owned the car was intoxicated. He stumbled while stepping out of his car and had slurred speech.

The officer flashed his light around in the car and saw a few empty beer cans. The owner was sitting on the grass near the car and looking nauseous. The officer asked him if it was all right to look inside his car. The owner put his hand up, waved, and said “Whatever, go.” Then the officer searched the car.

He looked in the area between the seats and reached under them. There he found crack cocaine rocks. After this discovery, he arrested both the driver and the owner of the car.

Prepare a report in Microsoft Word to advise the prosecution on the admissibility of the evidence. Cover the following points:

CJ 3620 Capella University Flood Twelve Hour Strategic Objectives Plan Paper

Twelve-Hour Strategic Objectives Plan

Disaster response and recovery involves the participation of many individuals and agencies to adequately manage the variety of complex issues arise during an event. Whether you are managing a natural or man-made disaster, the system to manage the incident is similar. The National Incident Management System (NIMS) provides the framework for the involved agencies and experts to work together to manage the response to an incident.

NIMS calls for the use of an emergency operations center (EOC) as a place for interagency coordination and response to major incidents. The use of an EOC allows for a consistent approach for decision-making and coordination of the many organizations involved in the response. By understanding the roles within an EOC and their functions, you will be more valuable to the emergency response efforts and contribute to the resolution of the incident.

The media piece, Riverbend City: Emergency Operations Center, linked in Resources, includes natural disaster and terrorism scenarios; you will develop a twelve-hour strategic objectives plan to respond to one of these situations. You will submit the plan in memo form. Memo templates are linked in Resources for your convenience; you may wish to review them before you begin.

For this assignment, you will assume a staff role in an EOC and choose the natural disaster or terrorism attack scenario to begin response planning.

Natural Disaster Choosen : FLOOD for the emergency plan attached

The purpose of this assignment is to guide your understanding of how interagency coordination, resource management, and emergency operations plans (EOPs) are beneficial during the management of a disaster.

Note: There is no “right” way to complete this assignment, which is reflective of real-world critical thinking and decision-making in the EOC. However, your objectives and decisions must be based on the strategies listed in the EOP.

  1. Construct this assessment based on the natural disaster or terrorism situation from the Capella media piece, Riverbend City: Emergency Operations Center.
    • Pay attention to the types of issues that arise during the discussion within the EOP staff.
  2. Identify your role as one of the staff members: incident commander, operations section chief, planning section chief, or logistics section chief. Your position is located in the EOC and part of an interagency group that is tasked with managing emergency response for one operational period.
    • After identifying the issues, refer to the Commonwealth of Virginia Emergency Operations Plan to clarify your understanding of how emergency personnel plan to address similar problems.
  3. Using the perspective of your chosen role in the EOC, write a 1.5–2 page memo for a twelve-hour strategic objectives plan that responds to your chosen scenario. Structure your memo with these headings:
    • EOC Role:
      • Summarize (briefly) your emergency operations management role and how the position relates to the other command positions.
    • Objectives:
      • Construct four primary strategic objectives for the next twelve-hour operational period.
    • EOP Application
      • Apply the strategy in the EOP to support objectives 1–4.
      • Indicate the EOP strategy that supports each of your objectives. Describe the objective, personnel needed to accomplish the goal, and alternatives that may be taken to accomplish the goal.
    • Response
      • Summarize elements of an EOP that address interagency response activities in the field.
      • Summarize the agencies or service organizations and functions that may assist with response activities in the field.

CRJ 100 Strayer Week 7 Criminal Justice Police Force and Criminal Rights Paper

Due Week 7 and worth 120 points

The courts have one of the most important roles in the criminal justice system. They are responsible for the interpretation and application of the law when crimes are committed, They exert some of their greatest influence when it involves due process under the law. The due process model argues that the greatest concern of the justice system should be providing fair and equitable treatment to those accused of a crime. This perspective is demonstrated through the courts’ involvement with the police in controlling search and seizure and interrogation, protecting the rights of the accused, in cases like Miranda v. Arizona and Weeks v. United States. Have concerns over due process and protecting the “allegedly” innocent led to the guilty also being spared, as the crime control model would argue?

Criminologist Herbert Packer’s assembly line concept finds that although there are many people who commit a crime and are arrested and charged, only about 21 adults are incarcerated for every 1000 serious crimes committed. Additionally, 80 percent of all felony cases and over 90 percent of misdemeanors are settled without trial.

On the other hand, over time, the Supreme Court has been diminishing the scope of the exclusionary rule. This normally excludes improperly obtained evidence by permitting more exceptions, thus allowing more “improperly obtained evidence” into court. For example, the evidence is now admissible in court if the police officers acted in good faith by first obtaining court approval for their search, even if the warrant they received was deficient or faulty. This has come to be known as the good-faith exception.

Based on your understanding from the readings in chapters 6-8, and keeping in mind the due process and crime control models, write a 2- to 3-page paper in which you discuss:

  1. Have criminals been given too many rights by the courts?
  2. Should courts be more concerned with the rights of victims or the rights of the offenders?
  3. Have police been “handcuffed” by the courts and prevented from doing their job in the most efficient manner?

Use your textbook and at least two (2) quality resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and similar Websites do not qualify as quality resources.

The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:

  • Explain the development of American courts and illustrate the concept of the dual-court system.
  • Distinguish between the various courtroom participants and describe the stages in a criminal

Grading for this assignment will be based on answer quality, logic/organization of the paper, and language and writing skills, using this rubric.

CTU Intelligence Collection Strategies and Policies Discussion

Since the events of September 11, 2001 the U.S. intelligence community—including state, local, and tribal entities—has grown exponentially. Critics argue that the U.S. intelligence apparatus and the policies and strategies that go along with it have gotten too big, expensive, and difficult to control. Some even go as far as to say that the massive U.S. intelligence system has become “unwieldy.” Proponents of the enhanced system, on the other hand, claim that the exponential growth has improved intelligence operations, thwarted attacks, and that the U.S. intelligence community achieves untold successes every day. Proponents also argue that although there is some duplication of efforts, this promotes competitive analysis.

Primary Task Response: Within the Discussion Board area, write 600 words or more that respond to the following questions with your thoughts, ideas, and comments. This will be the foundation for future discussions by your classmates. Be substantive and clear, and use examples to reinforce your ideas:

  • Do you feel that the U.S. intelligence system—including its policies, strategies, and operations—has gotten too big to control and to be effective? Explain your position.
  • What impact do the complex webs of federal, state, and local policies and strategies have on the overall success and effectiveness of the U.S. intelligence community? Explain.
  • Has the addition of intelligence apparatus at the state and local levels increased the overall success of the intelligence mission, or has it just added another layer of bureaucracy to an already complex and cumbersome system? Explain.

University of Nevada, Las Vegas Week 8 ?Sexual Deviance Case Study

Due Week 8 and worth 160 points

According to the text, heterosexual norms represent the guidelines for determining sexual deviance. For this case study, use the Internet to identify, research, and explore one criminal case of heterosexual deviance within the last three years.

Write a 3-5-page paper in which you address the following thoroughly. Cite specifics from the case to support your arguments:

  1. Specify the key turning points when the defendant began his/her descent into deviant behavior. Next, determine whether or not you believe “sexual deviant” is an accurate label for the defendant. Support your position.
  2. Debate whether or not the societal status of the defendant affected the identification of sexual deviance in the defendant. Justify your response.
  3. Analyze the significance of two characteristics of sexual deviance that are applicable to the defendant. Next, based on the characteristics you deemed applicable to the defendant, speculate whether or not there was a point that medical intervention could have helped him/her overcome or better control his/her sexual deviance. Provide a rationale to support your response.
  4. Suggest two rationales for society’s changing attitudes towards what is deemed acceptable sexual behavior. Next, predict two possible outcomes of the changing attitudes towards sexual behavior and its resulting influence on crime in the United States. Justify your response.
  5. Use at least three quality academic resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and similar types of websites do not qualify as academic resources.
